Policymaking Failed in Yemen

Written by: Majid Al-Nasiri

“If your house is made of glass, why do you throw stones at people?” Attempting to be part of the global conflict is an absurd idea that serves the interests of the influential and greedy, war brokers and arms dealers, especially at this particular time, in which we lack a seasoned leadership to avoid the country’s interference in a way  General, trying as much as possible to be friendly to everyone.

As a developing country, it is not in our interest to adopt a position or hostility with any country or external component, whether it is America, Iran, Russia, or even with the jinn, because we are still in the process of forming a state that did not provide its people with the basics of life. This policy made us vulnerable to global trade and exploitation,  Starting with organizations and ending with war merchants and influence ambitions, we and our leaders did not bite from the first and second world wars and the events that followed them. There are countries that learned lessons and began to adopt the policy of the art of the possible, which is a modern, unconventional policy that protects the interests of the country from clashing with any trends and contradictions surrounding it, as a policy  Egypt and Oman - Muscat - and the UAE has now begun to take this approach, and these countries took their experience from the European Union, meaning they put the interests of their people above their political position.

If we want to build a state, we must take into consideration the citizen, the people, and the public interest;  Before any orientation, idea, or ideology, whether political, religious or geographical, we look forward to our own political project stemming from the higher interests of the nation, in order to preserve our geographical borders and the material and moral gains and resources that qualify us as a country that has its political and economic weight and weight in front of the ocean and the world.

The deteriorating living situation in Yemeni cities and countryside is part of its causes.  Subordination and sectarianism to parties and to the ideas and whims of leaders, and to make matters worse, the frequency and clash of ideologies within the one Yemeni society, on top of which was Wahhabism and the Houthi boom and their demonization of the other.  In 1994, with the brand and support of the Islah Party, the branch of Wahhabi thought and the Brotherhood movement in Yemen, the Houthi coup against power and the principles of national dialogue in 2014.

These groups, with their dogmatic fundamentalist ideas, cannot coexist with the other that is different from them, and the clash of Wahhabism with socialism in 1994, and the Houthi coup in 2014 AD on the outcomes of the national dialogue - which involved everyone in power - is nothing but a witness to that because it purifies itself and firmly believes that it is right and below  That void cannot be sustained.

Yemen was subjected to many shocks that affected the citizen negatively, as a result of the mistakes of its leaders who, once they came to power, become sectarian and dependent. The closest example is the late President Ali Abdullah Saleh’s support for Saddam Hussein when he invaded Kuwait, which prompted the state after liberation to deport millions of expatriate citizens, and this does not mean  That Saleh was a failure, despite his mistakes, he avoided that, and proceeded to treat what was spoiled by his hateful and wrong fanaticism.

If we look at our reality today and before 2011, it becomes clear to us that after the spring revolutions;  The Arab world, and not only Yemen, was exposed to penetrations and the growth of foreign-oriented subversive projects, which affected the building and formation of the state that all Arabs dream of.  In return for recognition of them and a bill for the survival of those who remained in power, this chaos was a loophole for the major countries to search for influence and wealth, and as an opportunity to trade in the civilization of their peoples that are rooted in the depth of history.

Shall we attribute what was caused by wrong policies and a lack of proper handling of crises?  the outsider who took advantage of the chaos and began to implement his schemes and tricks;  Or for leaders and their lack of policy-making and lack of responsibility towards their homeland, or for ideologies that saw it as having the divine right to rule the people, or for society because of its stupidity and lack of awareness of its interests, which made it a fertile environment for all these crises..!
